After staying two months in London, I can describe this city like a worldwide platform because there are so many different nationalities. People are very tolerant, everybody respect the culture of each other, their religions, theirs habits, theirs styles...
This city has kept various draws of his history. Firstly, there are lots of museums and most of them are free (Natural History museum, British museum, Science museum…). They are very big and awesome. Secondly, several old monuments have not been destructed like Big Ben, House of Parliament, Buckingham palace, St Paul Cathedral, London Eye... I was very surprising by the number and the size of the park like Hyde park. All the parks and the streets are very clean. Architecture is very traditional and many areas worth a detour, for example, Notting Hill market is so antic and the streets are beautiful: houses have different colors, South Kensington: the Ambassador’s area is particularly chic…
At contrast, Camden town is a part of the city very amazing: this place looks like to an exhibition of the gothic life, we can see several piercing or tattoo shops, gothic clothes shops, and the famous Cyber-dog where different clothes and accessories of the “space world” are sold. It’s very disturbing to see that, it’s like another world in London. This capital is animated with lots of festivals, concerts, and theses famous musical shows! You can’t go in London without seeing one of them (My advises: Michael Jackson, Dirty dancing, The lion king, Chicago).
Moreover, for the drug-addict of shopping, the mainly streets to go shopping are Oxford street, Regent street and Covent garden, the biggest shopping center of Europe: Wesfield (shepherd bush station), Harrod’s, Abercrombie…
Otherwise, London by night is so amazing, the streets are never empty, a myriad of clubs, bars are opened but often quite there are expensive (Vendôme club). My lovely club is the KoKo club in Camden town, it built in a former theater, it’s very big and the decor is so spectacular. In general, people have a smart style, girls are usually dressed with a very short dress and high-heeled. One thing to know is that English people drinks so much, maybe for not felling the cold!
If you stay a short time in London, a very good residence is the Imperial College. Rooms and meals have a good quality but it’s the most expensive residence I think. Others residences take place in the center of London like the Bowden residence in Notting hill, the breakfast and the dinner are included. Otherwise, to find an apartment with others flat mates can be the cheapest, so if you go in London for several months it can be better for you.
Finally, I just can say it’s a fantastic city where people are helpful and meticulous. Maybe, the only drawback is that London is a very expensive city and the food is quite “special” but lots of restaurant or fast food take place in the center, from india food to Japanese food including American food. So, everyone can find his happiness.
Enjoy London and don’t forget your camera and your adaptor socket!
Clara
